Dactylopius coccus

These sweatpants were purchased from Everybody.World and are made of 100% recycled cotton. They have been dyed with cochineal, or Dactylopius coccus, an insect native to North and South Americas. Cochineal was originally used by Mexican Indigenous peoples to make pigment for paint and to dye textiles and feathers for wear. When the Spanish came to Mexico, they brought the desert-dwelling insects back to Europe, where they were used to dye the uniforms of English soldiers. (Source)

Care: Store out of direct sunlight, natural dyes will fade over time. I find that their impermanence is what makes them so special <3
